Massage is quite simply an intuitive therapy, concentrating on the sensation of touch and the connection between therapist and client.
It has been part of our global culture for centuries, and there is historical evidence from China dating back to 3000 BC, it was known to have been used in Ancient Rome and Ancient Egypt, and indeed we can find its traces in Native American tribes and as far away as India.
It’s a natural reaction when bumping an elbow or a knee to rub it and sooth it, and it’s this instinct that comforts and sooths us, and reminds us of the safety of being held as an infant.
Although massage therapy has such longstanding use, and so many people perceive the benefit of massage treatments for relaxation and to reduce muscle tension, it is only in recent years that clinical evidence has been collected to support its use in healthcare, so we can only outline potential benefits.
